Taking impostor syndrome out of localhost
Carrying it in silence doesn't fix it, it just hides it from whoever could help. This isn't therapy, it's a 4-line script for opening up to a teammate or your manager without sounding like a dramatic confession.
// the script
1. Name the pattern, not the drama: "lately I find it hard to trust that what I ship is enough, even when reviews go well".
2. Ask for the concrete data point, not comfort: "can you tell me something specific I did well on the last project? I find it hard to see it myself".
3. Normalise by asking, not assuming: "does this happen to you sometimes too, or is it just me?". The answer is almost always that it's not just you.
4. Close with a small request, not a big promise: "can we check in on this every couple of weeks?" instead of "it'll just pass on its own".
// why this isn't just "having a growth mindset"
2025 research finds impostor syndrome is more tied to competitive team cultures than to an individual trait of yours — what really reduces it isn't "thinking differently" alone, it's mentoring and honest peer exchange. That's why the script starts with a conversation, not an inner monologue.
