Jealousy

«Why them and not me?»

💛

What do I feel in my body?

My chest tightens, I want people to look at me, and it's hard to be happy for someone else.

⏰

When does it appear?

When someone has or gets something I also want, or when I feel someone else is getting more attention.

🌟

What can I do?

Say it out loud: "I feel jealous". It's okay to feel it — what's not okay is hurting someone to get attention.

🧡

An idea for mum or dad

Don't punish or deny it ("don't be like that"). Sibling jealousy is genuine, well-researched territory, not a flaw: give some one-on-one attention and help name the feeling.

🚫

Better to avoid saying

"You have no reason to be jealous." Denying the feeling doesn't make it disappear — it just teaches them to hide it.

Shall we play at recognising emotions?
