Frustration
«I can't do it, and I can't stand it!»
💛
What do I feel in my body?
I clench my teeth or fists, and I feel like throwing things or giving up.
⏰
When does it appear?
When something is harder than I expected, or I don't get what I want on the first try.
🌟
What can I do?
Pause, breathe, and try a different way. Getting frustrated is a sign you're learning something genuinely hard.
🧡
An idea for mum or dad
Don't solve the problem for them right away. Sit with the frustration first ("I can see this is hard") before helping — that's how they learn it can be tolerated without exploding.
🚫
Better to avoid saying
"If it frustrates you that much, better not try." Avoiding a challenge to avoid frustration takes away the chance to learn to tolerate it.
Shall we play at recognising emotions?
