Guilt
«I did something wrong and I can't stop thinking about it.»
💛
What do I feel in my body?
A weight in my stomach, wanting to fix it or say sorry.
⏰
When does it appear?
When I think I've hurt someone, or broken a rule that matters to me.
🌟
What can I do?
Guilt used well helps you repair things: say sorry or fix what you can, then let it go.
🧡
An idea for mum or dad
Help them tell 'I did something wrong' apart from 'I am bad' — the first can be repaired, the second only causes harm. Guilt is useful when it's brief and leads to action.
🚫
Better to avoid saying
Dragging the guilt out longer than needed ("remember what you did?"). Once it's repaired, they need to be able to move on.
Shall we play at recognising emotions?
